If you have a relative large number of items to plan it could take a while to run the MRP calculations in Business Central, an hour to do a full calculation is not uncommon, especially if you have been using the system for a while. In order to not have the MRP calculations to interrupt with the daily operations (such as posting orders) you typically want the calculations to take place during the night.
This is a very common requirement and our Scheduling of MRP extension allows you to configure and setup how MRP should run and when. With this extension and the Job Queue you can get Business Central to run the full MRP calculation during the night so that the planner(s) always have a fresh list of suggestions (action messages) when they show to work in the mornings. It allows for having different configurations being run at different times. You can for example run MPS ever second day and MRP each day, or having manufactured items planned on a weekly bases and purchased parts/material on a daily bases, the options are endless.
In addition to the scheduling, this extension adds some commonly requested changes to the Planning Worksheet such as an option to not defaulting the Accept Action Message checkbox and SKU related FactBoxes.
